Environmental Management Specialist

University of Ottawa

This is a Contract position in Ottawa, ON posted January 6, 2021.

Salary (Grade: 11) Hiring salary range $79077$99,887

Position Purpose

Develops, implements and maintains programs and systems to ensure compliance with federal, provincial and municipal environmental health and safety legislation, as well as University policies, procedures and guidelines.

Essential Qualifications

Degree from a recognized university in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, engineering, environmental science or other relevant discipline
Five years’ professional experience in environmentally-related area
Knowledge of federal, provincial and municipal environmental regulations and best practices
Experience in developing, implementing and maintaining environmental programs and management systems
Experience in handling and managing hazardous materials
Experience using computer software and databases
Experience in sampling methods, data collection, testing and interpretation of results, and technical reporting
Experience in oversight, as well as conducting inspections, inventories and audits, in industrial settings
Experience in interpreting and complying with policy, legislative requirements and procedures
Experience in reviewing construction plans, specifications, drawings or other related documents
Experience liaising with regulators
Experience in managing consultants
Ability to collaborate and negotiate with stakeholders
Ability to analyze problems and develop solutions
Ability to organize and prioritize workload while working in a stressful environment
Ability to collect and maintain relevant information, records and files
Bilingualism – French/English (spoken and written), with effective communication skills
