Int Electrical Engineer to develop cable design solutions

This is a Contract position in Ottawa, ON posted January 10, 2021.

Our valued client is looking for an Int Electrical Engineer for a 6 month contract in Ottawa!

Responsibilites:

  • Develop cable/harness design solutions which meet specific design requirements
  • Owner of key cable specifications and development of new specifications
  • Working application knowledge of relevant interconnect design and fabrication standards
  • Create power and system functional/block drawings and wiring diagrams
  • Ability to analyze/interpret schematic drawings, mechanical drawings and understanding part tolerances, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, standard industry symbols and drawing conventions to a level where the information provided is sufficient to construct the cable/harness or arrange the system
  • Support Production team during New Product Integration (NPI) stages
  • Create complex working cable drawings and interpret hardware design documents
  • Provide cable design effort estimates for project management stakeholders
  • Build parts Bill Of Materials (BOMs) and respond to obsolescence as required
  • Conduct and minute peer reviews of cable design output through project workflow
  • Working knowledge of configuration management processes for engineering changes
  • Leverage a knowledge of Electro-Magnetic Pulse (EMP)/ Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) issues as they pertain to cable design
  • Ongoing research of new materials/suppliers to strengthen supply chain
  • Develops preliminary and detailed layouts of medium to complex cables, harnesses and cable run sheets for system-level architecture connectivity.

Must Have Skills:

  • 5+ years relevant work experience as an Electrical Engineer within design and production environment/ Master’s degree and three (3) years’ experience in cable design for extreme environments/marine environments
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering or Electrical and/or Mechanical Technologist diploma from an accredited college
  • Experienced in cable ways and bulkhead penetrations in applications
  • Experienced in documenting designs in Computer Aided Design (CAD), Visio and Microsoft Office software products.
  • Component engineering experience and or production assembly experience
  • Environment requirements: Basic understanding of the principles of shock and vibration, thermal management and electromagnetic interference and electromagnetic compliance management and how these environmental requirements are accommodated in product design
  • Design to cost: Understanding of design to cost principles to ensure early establishment of realistic cost objectives and then managing the key factors which design cost to meet the stated objectives
  • Design for manufacturability/assembly/test (including tolerance analysis) and product functionality: Understanding of design for manufacturing and assembly principles to produce cost effective cable and harnesses which are optimized for manufacturing.
