Job Description

Primary Purpose: Under direction from the Operations Manager, the Team Leader is responsible for ensuring the complete management of the sample reception department. Ensuring samples are processed quickly and efficiently through the LIMS system, and coordinating the log in team to allow the fastest workflow is a key responsibility of the role. The TL will be expected to ensure all bottle shipments are managed in a timely fashion, stock room management is maintained and ensuring sample reception coordinates with other client service departments to guarantee customer satisfaction.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

• Receiving samples from clients at the counter directly or by courier delivery
• Sorting samples and making note of any deficiencies and updating PMs
• Discussing the project with the client to ensure clarity of the requirements, if necessary
• Using the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to log-in samples and generate labels
• Preparing bottles for client pick-up or shipping
• Ensuring phones are answered quickly and client needs are addressed
• Ensures the department is operating effectively and efficiently
• Acts as a back-up to other departmental Supervisors for administrative duties
• Ensures rush or priority samples are processed in a timely manner assuring client commitments are kept
• Performing interviews and training of new staff
• Coordinating between departments to ensure CoC errors are followed up
• Reviewing confirmations and updating projects within LIMS
• Maintaining the waste system and stock room/sample storage
• Participating in weekly management meetings
• Coordinating supplies and supporting operations for all Ontario locations

Qualifications

• Good understanding of IT and PC applications and software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint,etc.)
• Good communication skills, work effectively and efficiently
• Knowledge of environmental samples considered an asset
• Self-starter, ambitious and energetic
• Lab experience considered an asset
• Strong organizational skills
• Excellent telephone and people skills with client experience
• LIMS knowledge considered a strong advantage
• Environmental testing and regulatory needs considered a strong advantage

Additional Information

Working Conditions:

• This position is working in an office/lab environment where sitting is required for greater than 50% of the time. Lifting requirements of no more than 40 lbs.
• Shift work and overtime may be required, as well as working periodic weekends and/or evenings.
