Project Assistant, Volunteer Engagement and Experience (Summer Position)

This is a Contract position in Ottawa, ON posted May 31, 2021.

Summer Employment (9 weeks June-July)


The Canadian Red Cross Society, a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping Canadians, as well as the most vulnerable throughout the world, is currently seeking a dynamic individual for the position of Volunteer Experience & Engagement Project Assistant.

This position is 30 hours/week for 9 weeks during the summer.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Volunteer Program Design & Development, the Project Assistant will contribute to optimizing the efficiency of the VEE team at the National level and enhance the volunteer experience for  Red Cross volunteers through critical projects related to volunteer orientation, engagement, and recognition. 



-Project coordination and assistance including:

  • Partner with Subject Matter Experts to assess project needs
  • Contribute to the development of project documentation and plans
  • Monitor and report on project progress
  • Participate in various activities and produce various documents in support of the projects

-Assist with administrative needs of Senior Manager or other National Volunteer Experience and Engagement team members.

-Follow all policies and procedures as required to maintain a healthy and safe working environment.

-Performs other duties, as required. 



Education and Experience

  • Completion of one year of postsecondary education towards a degree or diploma in the field of Human Resources/Volunteer Management or Project Management
  • Experience as a volunteer or working with volunteers

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.  French proficiency an asset. 
  • Professionalism and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively within a team and build positive internal and external relationships
  • Superior organization and time management skills
  • Ability to work within a team with virtual supervision
  • Demonstrated computer skills in MS Office applications.   Experience with Microsoft Teams, Share Point, Smart Sheet, or Raiser’s Edge an asset.
  • Ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information
  • A positive attitude with openness to new challenges
  • A satisfactory Enhanced Police Information Check (EPIC) is required



  • The majority of the work is performed in a virtual environment
  • Typical work hours are Monday to Friday, from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm EDT.  Some flexibility is required when collaborating with volunteers and staff in other time zones.
