Title: Mechanical DesignerClient: Defence/AerospaceLocation: OttawaSecurity Clearance: NATO SecretWork Hours: Monday to Friday, full timeStart Date: asapEnd Date: 6 months to start, leading to permanency Our client is a mid-sized company specializing in the design of mechanical and electronic solutions for both naval and aerospace platforms.

They design, develop and manufacture in house.

They are seeking a Mechanical Designer to play a lead role in assisting their clients in all phases of the design process, from functional planning and conceptual layout through to detailed design and construction support.

This is a 6 month contract to start, leading to permanency.

Tasks and Responsibilities
·Model complex metallic assemblies (welded and mechanically fastened) out of largely sheet metal components working from stringent Aerospace requirements
·Produce drawing packages of those models and review and check other drawing packages
·Design and produce drawings of custom in-house tooling and jigs to fabricate product and support manufacturing during fabrication
·Write technical publications and support documents Skills and Experience Requirements
·A Mechanical Engineering degree, related discipline or equivalent experience combined with Mechanical Technologist diploma
·At minimum 5 years experience designing mechanical components (particularly sheet metal) in a SolidWorks CAD environment
·Complete and thorough understanding of drawing and dimensioning specifications to ASME standards
·Proven ability to produce multi-level, complex drawing packages
·Comfortable and familiar with GD& T tolerancing
·Comfortable with tolerance stack-up calculations
·Experience in a fabrication environment, including sheet metal welding and riveting
·Ability to obtain a NATO Secret clearance, and a Controlled Goods Clearance
