RESTORATIVE CARE AIDE (Casual) – Extendicare Starwood

Applicants are invited to apply for a casual Restorative Care Aide position at our 192 bed Home in Ottawa, Ontario.  Reporting to the Resident Program Manager/Director of Care, the successful applicant will have the following responsibilities and qualifications:

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Plan, implement and evaluate both individual and group restorative/adaptive programs, based on assessed needs and as referred.
  • Set up and clean areas as necessary and transport residents to and from programs.
  • Participate in development and revision of restorative care programs under the guidance of the supervisor/Director of Care/registered staff.
  • Work cooperatively with other departments, residents, family and therapists for goal development and treatment or recommendation.
  • Implementation of program as per Restorative Nursing Manual
  • Complete resident quarterly assessment and document progress in resident care plan; MDS assessments and required documentation; attend and report –  interdisciplinary team conferences / Resident Assessment Protocol weekly meetings
  • Complete restorative assessment to determine level of assistance required.
  • Assess residents’ abilities, values, interests, past experiences and readiness to learn/participate

           

QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Kinesiology / physiotherapy / PTA degree preferred
  • Restorative Care Aide Certificate preferred
  • Working knowledge of RAI/MDS and impact on nursing rehabilitation
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, as well as excellent documentation and computer skills.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in one-one/group program planning, implementation and evaluation – for range of cognitive functioning.
  • Experience in feeding, grooming, walking, range of motion exercises.
  • Knowledge of proper body mechanics, seating and positioning, assistive devices.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience in care planning and resident assessments.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Good time management. 
  • Knowledge and experience in working with the geriatric population.
  • Team oriented player.
