Control and Accounting Officer

University of Ottawa

This is a Contract position in Ottawa, ON posted January 6, 2021.

Salary (Grade: 10) Hiring salary range $70347$88,861

Position Purpose

Manages and monitors the financial and administrative operations of various sections, including major research projects. As a budgetary, financial and administrative planning advisor, makes recommendations to senior managers to support their decision-making. Manages and coordinates all of the service’s operational activities, including monitoring budgets, expenses and revenues, analysing various financial reports and implementing recommendations to correctly and effectively manage the section. Ensures that an optimal administrative framework is in place for the sector, that daily operations run smoothly, and that deadlines are met. Refines work methods for the sector and improves existing methods to ensure that operations are compliant and run efficiently. Proposes measures to more effectively manage operational and research funding (CRC, SSHRC, CERC, CIHR, trust and endowment funds, etc ).

Essential Qualifications

Extensive knowledge of accounting, and of administrative, financial and human resources management, normally acquired through post-secondary education or equivalent experience
Extensive knowledge of the main funding agencies and of their rules
Experiencing in drafting, applying and interpreting complex policies and regulations
Experience in managing human resources and teams, in conducting negotiations and in managing projects
Experience in providing customer service as a resource person
Experience in bilingual administrative writing
Experience in using various computer software and hardware, such as Banner, FAST, Windows, Microsoft Office, databases, Internet and email
Bilingualism – English and French (spoken and written)
