Coordinator – Indigenous Disaster Risk Reduction

The Canadian Red Cross is looking for an Coordinator, Indigenous Disaster Risk Reduction .

Reporting to the Supervisor, Disaster Risk Reduction.

T he Coordinator, Disaster Risk Reduction is responsible for engaging with Indigenous communities and agencies across the province to foster preparedness and risk reduction.

This position focuses on promoting and strengthening support networks and relationships in Indigenous communities in order to identify and mitigate risks and the corresponding impacts on people and communities.

You are a dynamic, and adaptable professional who can work in a fast paced environment You pay attention to detail, have a positive attitude, and the ability to work with on self directed tasks You will enjoy: Culture: an organization that is guided by our fundamental principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity and universality Opportunity: to work with the best and brightest in the non-profit field, in an environment that promotes continuous learning, creativity and collaboration Meaningful Work: the opportunity to grow and learn through meaningful work at one of Canada’s largest non-profit organizations In this role you will: Foster and maintain relationships with a variety of First Nations communities and government agencies Track and report progress of key deliverables in a timely manner Gather, process and organize large amounts of information from various sources for use to meet programmatic objectives Track and report on feedback from stakeholder engagement to ensure program delivery is responsive and flexible Travel to remote locations across the province to facilitate engagement with First Nations communities Require the ability to readily adapt to the needs of various audiences We’re looking for: Degree is a related field of study with 3 years experience working on indigenous programs, or an applicable combination of education and experience Must be fluent and have strong verbal and written skills in English Understanding and knowledge of Indigenous culture, traditions, beliefs and protocols of the region Interpersonal skills with teammates, colleauges and stakeholders Demostrated ability to work towards program objectives Strong public speaking skills, both in person and virtually Demonstrated experience in writing reports that are easily understood and include clear recommendations for action Individuals who identify as First Nation, Métis or Inuit are encouraged to apply for this position Working Conditions Working remotely and/or from a home environment Travel within the province, including in rural and remote community settings, is required This position requires a satisfactory criminal record reference check Required to work non-traditional hours The Canadian Red Cross is committed to gender equality and social inclusion in our workplace.
