Cobol developers to provide ongoing Production Support of a major pension system

This is a Contract position in Ottawa, ON posted March 18, 2021.

Our federal government client has a requirement for four (4) Cobol developers to provide ongoing Production Support of a major pension system.

Tasks:

  • Perform a leading role in developing low level detailed requirements including programming andsystem design and development that interoperates with the team as needed.
  • Provides ongoing production support of the system to ensure its integrity andavailability as per the established service levels.
  • Assesses impacts from other sources such as integration initiatives, horizontalsolutions, infrastructure upgrades, accessibility, new business requirements and/or system enhancements.
  • When requested, provides third level on-call production support of the batch processing run;a weekly process initiated every Friday at 20:00 EST.
  • Provides problem analysis and problem resolution and contributes to the resolution of production incidents.
  • Analyzes, develops, and modifies custom software coded in COBOL, CICS & JCL.
  • Completes and/or updates systems documentation in accordance with departmental standards andprocedures and provides any documentation required.
  • Participates in the testing, evaluation and implementation of system changes.
  • Adheres to corporate policies and best practices to ensure internal and external audit-ability of all software changes.

Deliverables include but are not limited to the following:

  • Pension system production incidents/outages – documented problem analysis, tracking and problem resolution using prescribed departmental problem tracking tools.
  • Systems Analysis – for the assigned work and where appropriate, defined and documented requirements for data, work-flow, logical processes, network, hardware, Operating System, COTS, other system interfaces and outputs.
  • Utilizing TSO in a ZOS mainframe environment the following deliverables:
    • application software coded in MVS COBOL and CICS COBOL;
    • job submission streams coded in JCL.
  • For the assigned work, maintenance life-cycle documentation in accordance with departmental standards and procedures.
  • For the assigned work, cost and time estimates.
  • Weekly Status Report.
