Building Services Coordinator

Mainstay Housing

This is a Contract position in Ottawa, ON posted April 1, 2021.

Mainstay Housing works with people living with mental illness and substance use issues who are deeply affected by poverty and provides them with housing, on-going support and greater opportunity to be part of a community.

We are a charitable, private non-profit agency which owns and manages approximately 40 buildings and over 950 units across Toronto.

Effective April 1, 2001, we will be amalgamating with Houselink.

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a: BUILDING SERVICES COORDINATOR Reporting to a Manager, Building Services Department (BSD), this position is responsible for the coordination and leadership of the Caretakers and Maintenance Workers for delivery of effective corrective and preventative maintenance programs within their portfolio (one geographical half of Mainstay properties in Toronto).

Risk management and health and safety systems are key while ensuring the work plan is achieved.

Two BSD Coordinators serve to support each other, and provide administrative assistance to the Building Services Department and team at Head Office.

It requires a dynamic individual who is looking to step up into a supervisory role and who is able to balance competing demands, work collaboratively with other departments and strive to meet the mission and vision of Mainstay Housing and Houselink incorporated.

You have thorough understanding of maintenance systems, building systems and operations, including knowledge of repair methods, materials and technology.

You will use your leadership, organizational, time management, verbal and written skills to monitor all responsibilities related to maintenance issues and facilitate solutions.

In addition, you will have: Qualifications: Demonstrated experience and knowledge of building systems Two years’ related experience / college diploma in the area of Property Management or related field Knowledge of applicable legislation including: Occupational Health and Safety Act, WSIA, Fire Code, Building Code, Life Safety Systems, Excellent knowledge of Project Management Excellent interpersonal skills with sensitivity to the issues of vulnerable populations Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team environment as well as independently Knowledge of computer systems (Microsoft Office Suite) and other property management databases Supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized setting is an asset ON CALL ROTATION with some EVENING & WEEKEND WORK REQUIRED.

Many work environments are not smoke-free and some buildings have elevators.

Requires a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle Regular hours of employment are 8:30 a.m.

to 4:30 p.m.
