Dairy Farmers of Canada (DFC) is currently looking for a Senior Content Specialist/Senior Writer to work either out of our Ottawa, Ontario OR Montreal, Quebec office.

If so, you will be happy to know that (once we go back to the office…!) we offer free cheese, yogurt and a variety of dairy products on a daily basis!The Senior Content Specialist/Senior Writer is responsible for producing engaging and easy-to-read content for diverse audiences including online consumption, provincial publications and internal communications.

The successful candidate also plays an active and significant role in the development and production of various communications material related to DFC’s audiences, including members, media, consumers, government and the dairy industry.

The incumbent generates content that projects a positive image of DFC’s accomplishments, portrays a positive image of the dairy sector, producers and DFC in particular, by utilizing the art of storytelling.Duties and ResponsibilitiesContent CreationCollaborate with internal and external subject matter experts to identify relevant topics and detailed information to target groups; Conduct interviews with various key internal stakeholders and in the dairy industry and translate the information into compelling stories; Create a wide variety of content for the Web and print publications that includes, but is not limited to press releases, key messages/media lines, news articles, backgrounders, articles, FAQs, infographics and videos; Edit content and ensure quality control on any final products; Ensure messaging is consistent and reflects the organization’s position and strategic vision; Collaborate with colleagues to create innovative content ideas; andHelp maintain the editorial calendar by scheduling due dates and tracking content through the editorial process.Project ManagementContribute to and maintain high standards of internal and external processes through strong project management practices; Establish schedules and work back, communicate these timelines to all stakeholders and lead projects to ensure all moving parts are accountable; Analyze tracking metrics and make recommendations; and,Ability tothink outside of the box and propose innovative means of communicating the right information to the right audience at the right time.Audience ManagementCollaborate and manage all dealings with internal and external stakeholders to develop and meet agreed deadlines for projects; Collaborate on planning with the Communications team to ensure that information flows well between departments and follows an editorial calendar; Conduct ongoingassessment of the needs of different audience segments and how it relates to content production and dissemination; Continuously review and analyze content to inspire new ideas and keep the editorial content fresh and relevant to the news cycle and online trends; and,Ensure allcontent, deliverables and product experiences are of the highest standard.Perform other duties as assigned.Professional SkillsSuperior communication skills, both written and spoken.

Bilingual (French and English) writing and speaking is considered an asset; Advanced professional writing skills, including proficiency in plain language writing, building narratives coupled with the ability to conduct effective research; Ability to demonstrate tact, diplomacy and discretion in all communications.Demonstrated abilities in writing techniques that are common for web content (succinct, fact-filled content)
·Knowledge of digital (organic and paid) tactics, including best practices; Ability to assess information and synthesize a broad range of information for clear, concise and accurate communication; Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to influence, collaborate with people and build consensus among all levels of the organization and with key external stakeholders; Adaptability tochange, able to navigate uncertainty and work independently balanced with taking direction and guidance.Strong organizational and time management skills to effectively handle issues simultaneously and meeting scheduled timelines.

Ability to synthesize data into clear actionable statements.Must be highly professional, have good judgment, proactively take initiative, able to multitask and demonstrate ability to work well under pressure.Ability to take initiative, be self-motivated and use sound, independent judgement; A team player with an approachable disposition and great sense of humour; Keeps abreast of content and publishing trends; and,Proficientof the Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint.RequirementsMaster’s degree preferred, however a bachelor’s degree in Journalism, French, and/or Communications combined with relevant experience may be considered; Minimum seven (7) years of relevant content writing experience; Experience writing, editing and proofreading content for the web, newsletters and other forms of publications; Experience in food, consumer packaged goods or other similar industries considered an asset; Knowledge of the dairy sector is considered an asset; Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and SharePoint; and,Experiencementoring within a team environment is considered an asset.About Dairy Farmers of CanadaDairy Farmers of Canada is the national policy, lobbying and promotional organization representing Canadian dairy producers.
