Safety Director

Aecon is currently seeking an EHS Project Director, to join the Finch West LRT Project
– a transformative transit infrastructure system for the Toronto Area.

The EHS Project Director is responsible for the management and execution of the Project Safety activities.

Key Responsibilities Manages the day-to-day activities of Project Safety operations and centralized program and implementation of the Redbook, within the Assigned Project Formulates and recommends improvement to project safety manual Ensures compliance to the Occupational Health & Safety Act and other pertinent legislation Inspects and Audits project facilities and recommends corrective and or preventative measures Advise and assist executives and project management on matters relating to safety, occupational health and Security issues.

Develop and promote safety awareness programs to encourage improved safety awareness throughout the organization.

Manage, direct and supervise the daily activities of subordinates within the safety function.

Recruit candidates for safety positions as required.

Represents the organization in community or industry safety associations and programs as needed Supervises workers’ compensation and claims management process Supervise/conduct accident investigations, analyze trends and ensure corrective actions are addressed Develop safety proposals and assists in marketing strategies and presentations Assist in Labour Relations matters as required Assist project with marketing strategies, prequalification’s, bids and proposals.

Also, supports divisions through developing and giving presentations to new and existing clients on Health & Safety matters Prepares quarterly status reports for site senior management and joint venture partners Required Knowledge and Experience University degree, Community College or equivalent experience in the Health and Safety field At least 10 years’ experience in a senior OHS role in the rail/construction or related industry (ideally high hazard) A professional designation such as a “CRSP” In-depth knowledge and ability to strategically apply legal requirements across a project Familiar with the players in all related industries.

Understands competitive environment and industry trends in the medium to long term.

Ability to carry out major incident investigations.

Ability to research and prepare high level reports on HSE and improvement strategies at the group level Ability to devise and monitor group level strategic business plans and resource infrastructure.

Detailed understanding of workplace motivation and morale principles.

Ability to monitor motivational levels and strategically plan and/or support project-wide morale improvement / motivational initiatives Ability to contribute to and communicate a companywide long-term vision and a strategy to achieve short, medium and long-term goals.

Knowledge of change management principles.

Ability to drive, lead and support change at the company level.

Ability to develop and maintain a network of industry-wide contacts.
